Eligibility for Project Management Professional Exam
The eligibility for Project Management Professional certification can be split up into two sets and they are detailed out below.
The aspiring candidates should have completed High school, 10+2 or its global equivalent to take up the certification. They should also posses 5 years of unique non overlapping project management experience in a reputed organization with a minimum of 7,500 hours of project management experience that involves leading and directing a project and other tasks. The aspiring candidate should also posses 35 hours of project management education.
The second categories of candidates who are eligible to take up the Project Management Professional certifications are the candidates who are a four year bachelor’s degree holder or equivalent from a recognized university. The aspiring candidates should also posses a minimum of three years or 36 months unique non overlapping professional project management experience. During this period the candidates should have spent at least 4,500 hours leading and directing project tasks. The candidates should have also had 35 hours of formal project management education.
Candidates are eligible to appear for the exams only once the fees is received by PMI and the application audit is successfully completed post selection of application.
Application Forms and Fees

Candidates should ensure that they provide a valid email id as that will be the mode of communication all throughout the credential process.
The fees for the certification vary deepening on the candidate’s membership with PMI. The PMI tests for non members costs US $555 and for member it costs US $405. Payments can be made by credit cards, checks and wire transfer.
Exam Details
The exam comprises of 200 multiple choice questions, of which 25 questions are pretest questions.
These are questions that do not affect the score of the candidate. The standard mode of administration is through the computer bases testing. The exam time is a maximum of four hours.
The candidates are quizzed on initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing and professional and social responsibility.
Usually the exam is administered in English; however there are language aids available for 12 different languages. Candidates can take up the exams three times within one year depending on how thy have fared in their first attempt.
